Part of the ongoing interview series. Massimo recently broke his ankle and instead of wasting away at home watching TV or being idle in depression – he asked us if he could come to the HQ and help out. He wakes up early everyday, gets on the north bound Metro Link train from Irvine and hops in the Liberty Van Pool to the warehouse. The guy is a trooper and I think he’s actually called in sick less than O’conn. A crappy wage, getting yelled at, listening to all of us complaining all the time – he still shows up crutching around the warehouse doing what he can to help out. We’re proud of the Mass Man – he’s not just a skater that rides for us – he’s a part of the crew. We’re big fans of his skating and even bigger fans of his character. - admin

Interview conducted by Austyn Gillette / Photos Courtesy of the World Famous Anthony Acosta

You’re a mysterious man, How’s the love life?
Single and mysterious, you interested at all?

What’s your go-to snack on the Amtrack Train before heading over to the warehouse?
Colt 45 and a chocolate bar (donut that is).

I noticed you have a cast on your ankle / leg, What happened?
The ski jump at Potrero Park up in SF caught me off guard, leaving me with a dislocated ankle and broke fibula.

What are you going to do with all of those extra right shoes?
Hopefully slang them to someone in my same position but with the other foot or to an amputee who only has a right foot.

Do you find it weird that we never skate the streets, is it because you’re too cool?
I noticed the same thing, but kinda reversed, it seems that ever since that Habitat part of yours came out my calls go straight to answering machine every time I call.

Do you have to wear black dickies to get on Real?
By no means do you have to, it’s more like an insurrance policy to not get kicked off.
For more Massimo check out the Real Skateboards site. There’s some really good stuff on there.

Austyn and Massimo have been lurking around the workplace so much these days we decided to put them to work and ask each other some questions.

Interview conducted by Massimo Cavedoni.

For how long have you been associated with the notorious Liberty Boardshop?

I think for around 7 to 8 years, thats a rough guesstimate.

Which Liberty employee do you find yourself leasuring with the most?

hmm… i would have to go with Jeff Chikami, or also Chad Van Valkenburg.

Did you complete all four years of high school?

Yes, indeed though it may not seem so. i did my first 2 years at independent studies, then i skipped my jr. year by doing all the work, and then finished up my last year in public school. Everybody was telling me that it was a good idea that I should test out the last year in public school and so i did. It ended up working out pretty well so I guess it was a good idea.

How hard was it parting ways with Hawk Clothing?

Well have you ever seen Gladiator? if so you will remember the part when Russell Crowe’s family get’s killed and he is left just to fight for his life. well thats a little bit how it felt.

If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?

If I were to be any animal I would go with sloth.

Favorite travel destination that your skateboard has taken you?

Barcelona was my favorite, just so easy to get around and good food.

Where would you like to go that you have not yet gone?

AUSTRALIA!

Fred Gall has well over a decades worth of video parts, which do you treasure most?

I know that I wasn’t really skating at all at the time, but when I saw his timecode part I was pretty hyped. Anything Freddy does is always interesting to watch so it’s kinda hard to just pick one part.

If the entire Habitat team was on Survivor, who would be the first to get eleminated?

Damn, I’m gonna go with ray.

If the world does indeed end in 2012, who would you like to see take the final title of Skater of the Year?

Haha you would ask that. I’m going to say you Massimo.
